Vitamin B6 exists in three main forms—pyridoxine hydrochloride, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine—all of which must be converted in the liver to pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P), the bioactive form the body can utilize. P-5-P plays a key role in numerous physiological functions, such as supporting the synthesis of neurotransmitters like GABA, serotonin (from 5-HTP), and dopamine (from levodopa). It also contributes to energy production from glucose and is involved in amino acid and fat metabolism.†
